Evaluation

I started but selecting what part of the rocks I would set my dancer in front of, i then found the speakers to cut out and paste into the rocks as if the rocks were casing the speakers i did this by cutting them out and playing with the opacity then adding a shadow next to it so it looks like it is part of the rock, i then started on placing the dancer in the piece and changing the colour and saturation using adjustment masks on the piece, and also playing with the opacity of the image, i then used a custom brush tool to create bubble coming off the dancer and the speakers to give it that illusion of movement i did this on a new layer, next i made a new fill layer and added a filter called noise which left a white dotted look on it i changed to layer to overlay to get rid of the black to just leave the white so it looked like little air bubbles to get that underwater effect and again played with the opacity, i felt my image was missing something so i added different colour starfish and created a masking layer on them to make it look like they were glowing under the water so give it a bit more colour, this was a technique i used in the first demo we did when we started, i then went about added a ripple to the layers to once again give it that underwater look i found it very effective , then all i had to do what make a few touch ups like shadows and little mistakes i had made. I then flattened the image and played around with the levels until i felt my image had the look I wanted it to, all in all i am very happy with my final piece, although i had to change my plan at the last minute due to a lack of images i felt i created a worthy piece for the online magazine, a few changes i may make is i done know if added a ripple effect to it was very smart although it does give it an underwater look at the same time it messes up the image and makes it slightly unclear, Health and safety was included in producing the piece, taking a 15 minute break every hour and a half and using the equipment safely and setting up my chair in a good position to give myself a good posture so i do not suffer from possible RSI ( repetitive strain injury ). Below are images of the pictures i used for my piece as well as the final outcome of these processes.

This is My final peice:

Planning

Today we also started to mind map some ideas for our project, using main subjects and spreding out from there , the spider diagram me and my group created is below.

After this we got to choose one of the subjects and also we picked a subject of out a hat and we had to find images for those subjects the subject i chose was taps, and the random subject i picked out of a hat was, underwater-snow, i then went onto goodle and type in those two subjects and these are a few images that i found to inspire me.

Plane Demo

Today the 14th of september 2010 we worked on creating an underwater image of a plane a shark and the floor bed, we did this by first opening a photo on a gravel pathway and editing it in such a way that it looks like a sea bed playing with the colours, using masks we edited each photo so they would merge in with each other and using different filters and blending techniques we got a very believe able looking peice, i am very pleased with my peice and i feel i have yet again learnt more about photoshop which will be very handy in doin my work at home. These are the 3 images i started with .

    This is my finished product.

Reasearch

Last night in reasearched some insperation for my first assignment creating a poster with the theme underwater, u looked up water edits on google and it came up with many well edited peices which of some caught my attention, there was one with a naked women wearing a dress which aprered to be made from water which i found very clever and would love to try at, another one was a womans face that merged into a bubble effect which was very eye catching , i would like to incorporate these ideas into my final peice. here are a couple of pictures i found.
These are the two photo that i found and liked, there are many others but these are my favorites out of the lot, as you can see there is great detail in these peices and i wish to get the same effect.

Julian Opie
Julian opie was born in 1958 he is a contemporary British artist who uses computerised imagery, he is a former trustee of the Tate gallery. Julian was born in London but was raised in oxford, he did his study in Dragon school in oxford and spent some time in Magdalen college school, once he had completed his studies he became a teacher in the Chelsea college of art. Some of Julian’s projects include Blurs best of album cover which includes a photo of each band member and computerised their faces to look like simple cartoons with dots for eyes this is a very famous album cover and it is just typical of Julian’s work. Also in 2006 during A U2 performance there was an led light show of his shown on stage of the aimless walking man.  The way in which Julian’s work influences me is the way his images have just an amazing look to them yet that are so simple. I have tried many times to do this myself but i haven’t managed to get it to the effect that he does. Also as part of my future i would like to become an album cover designer and that most artists now want something like Julian’s piece which has been digitally made. Also what i like about his work is that its is such a basic representation of the subject hes doing yet u can still tell what it is representing or who it is an image of. From an artistic point of view this image below is very basic n lacks great detail but i feel that evan that it doesnt have any great detail in the means of facial features or tone but it is still obvious who the image is of , hes taken the bare minimal structures of the subjects face and has turned it into a cartooned peice and it works really well.

Simone Legno
Simone is a creative director and co founder of tokidoki Born in Rome simone had been drawing since he was a young child , his mother was a painter, he drew little cartoon doodle and at school his artworks were put up all over his school walls. He carried on this style of drawing into art school, he started advertising his work on the internet and was approached by a company wanting to merchandise his designs now his art work is seen world wide . He now has his own company called tokidoki which is the brand name for his art works and merchandising. The way in which simone influences me is that his art work is so simple yet also known all over the world and it can easily be adapted into album covers and merchandise, another dream for me is to bring out my own clothing brand with my logos and images on it so in that sense i look up to simone as a person I could hopefully become a success like.  Also his art work is quite street wise and modern which I like, and looking at his art work I would love to include something like his work in my peice. From an artistic point of view the image below is very simple representations of little animals and people , he has taken away all human and such form and just replaced it with standerd day shapes like circles and ovals and filled it in with what is mostly primary colours. What i like also is that this style of cartoon can range all threw the ages from lil kids to teenagers, which mean it is a good product for the teenage market which is the main target for artists and companys now.

Dylan Cole
Dylan Cole is a computer graphics artist working on soft ware such as Photoshop and cinema 4D, using a graphics tablet he draws his images straight into the computer digitally, he has created scenery and objects for films like lord of the rings and avatar, most of his art work looks very realistic to the naked eye which makes these films look very believable, Dylan did not go to an art school but did attend a fine arts program at UCLA, his painting can take from 3 days to 3 months depending on the detail and the size of the project at hand, although he created all of his images because he did them for films he does not own rights to his own work which means he can’t sell or distribute it. The reason i think this artist inspires me is because of the amazing detail and fascination I can look into his work, to create my own 3d images would be a massive help in the future with what could be some difficult projects, I feel I have the same passion and patience in my work to create work like his and i hope in the future I can work up to the level that he has in the art work that he can create. From an artistic point of view the image below by dylan is out standing amasing detail what he has managed to do is from nothing create an imaginary scene to the extent that it looks real, what i also like about this is that u can spend ages looking at it looking at all the fine details and bits and bobs. It also interests me that you can creat any sort of world or scenery it can be absolutly anything there are no boundrys to what you can create.
Bert Monroy
Bert Monroy was born and raised in new York he came from quite a poor background but has managed to work his way up to be involved in the advertising industry as well as having his own advertising business. He co-authorised the book, the official adobe Photoshop handbook which was the first handbook created for Photoshop. He was first inspired by digital are when he discovered computers in the form of the Macintosh 128 in 1984, and from that moment on he was inspired into the digital graphics area of art, His art is basically digitally painted images, at a first glance to the untrained eye it appears to be just a standard photo which had been taken but on closer inspection u can see a digital look to his art work the quality that u would see on the latest consol games. The reason i feel Bert influences me is the passion he has for Photoshop and u can see the amount of interest he has by the amount of knowledge he has about it, also because he started his career in the advertising industry which it what i hope to do as well, also owning his own design agency which is also one of my ambitions in life but to be able to create realistic images like him in the future will come in very handy as is similar with Dylan Coles work. From an artistic point of view berts work is very advanced but different from dylan he creat realistic imagry rather than creative, so in a way berts work lacks a bit of creativity but makes up for it in his final outcomes and projects, to make a painted image to look just like a photo is a very good skill and takes months on end to complete, the reason why his work influences me also is that it looks realistic and i want my peice to look realistic asif it was real. Like an underwater world type look or a madifyed image of a human that looks real.

Typography

Today we learnt how to add text to our images using the text tool , we learnt how to enlarge it and how to space it using the character window, there are 3 basic types of txt, sans-serif, serif and script, script is curly text like caligraphy and serif is starderd box txt with little flicks cumin of the ends of the letters and sans-serif is your basic basic text here below is an example of the 3.

This next image is an image of the txt i put into my peice to turn it into a magazine cover this is basic stuff but i feel i learnt enough to be confident enough to use it in my project.

Rhinopard

Today we did a demo on how to give a rhino lepard skin these are the two images below that we started with

We started by putting the image of the lepard over the rhino and to cover any patches that the lepard did not cover we used a filer called liquify which helped us stretch out to cover any small patches that we did not reach, we then uped the opacsity and set the image of the lepard to overlay which helped blend it into the skin of the rhino, we then erased any bits we didnt need with the mask painting over it in black, we then played with the opacsity again till we could clearly see that it was a rhino and to bring threw the skin folds and stuff, this is my final image.

I dont feel this is my best peice but with a bit of practice i may get the levels and the proportions right, its still a great effect which i would deffinatly use in the future with projects i would like to try to do it to a human skin , i enjoyed doing this task and learnin to use liquify , it is a handy tool to use i nthe future and yet again i feel like iv learnt a new skill today, here below is an image of a human face with lepard skin as part of my experimental testing,

This was purly experimental but i am quite happy with the result but it is a lil amature looking but over all it doesnt look to bad i had fun doing it and i feel the skills i learnt helped me do this experimental peice.

Proposal

The topic of this piece is underwater I have had a few ideas on what to do but here is a few things to relate to underwater:
·         Fish
·         Marine life
·         Corral
·         wrecks
·         sand
·         pollution
·         BP oil leak
·         Swimming
·         War planes
These are a few things i can relate into my poster but what i was really thinking of doing is a mix of the land world with the underwater world, or by thinking outside the box a little bit more maybe exchanging a normal reality with a water one, for example have a women wearing water shaped as clothing. Also as a mix with an anti smoking campaign having a woman blowing out toxic black smoke and oil into the ocean with a phrase like u wouldn’t pollute the sea so why pollute are air.
With the water clothing ideas i came up with that after researching online and thinking, clothing is our way of covering ourselves up of your under the cloths to hide yourself, and by making the cloths out of water you are then under a water cover so in a way that still represents underwater in a sort of outside of the box way.
With the smoking campaign poster I have manages to give myself another topic inside the underwater one which is anti smoking, having a women smoking oil and pollution into the ocean was a thought I had after looking at the BP crisis and thinking, over the years adding up all the people that smoke people blow into are air every day of the year is probably more that the BP spilled in that time of the pipe being broken, so in a way humans are polluting are air in the same way that BP were polluting the water.
If I had a client for this piece I would let them know what colours I would be using for my piece as I could make the mistake of using the colours of a rival companies which would not be a good situation, this is one of the things I would have to take into consideration when making the piece. Also they may have colours that they would like to incorporate into the piece so they suited work they may already of had done so colour is a subject I would have to bring up. In this case i am using mainly underwater colours like blues and greens in order to get that underwater look also dark browns and blacks to represent pollution, using dark natural colours I feel I can get a really good effect that could have an impact on what people think of it when they look at it. With the water cloths idea ill use bright eye catching colours i am pretty much free to use whatever colours I want in this piece the possibilities are endless but i think in order to get most of the attention on the water i will have to use quite natural colours in order not to overpower the main part of the piece. In order to keep in touch with the underwater life topic i will have her under the water so you have a human life underwater which is an abstract thought.
I would also have to explain my influences in my piece so if I showed to the customer what my influences were for the piece they may not agree and say that they do not feel the same way or they may not agree with the thoughts that you are having so it is always important to have facts and influences to back up what you are saying. In this case I am using anti smoking campaigns as a influence using things like pollution and harming the environment in order to get in touch with people feelings and hopefully getting a reaction out of it, or in terms of the water clothing idea my influences would be about using underwater as a metaphors to represent how we are undercover when we wear cloths. And how some ethnic religions cover up there bodies as a part of their religion or as some youth do now as to wear hoods to cover them from being seen. So the water is to represent the cover to a human as the water represents to cover up 70% of our planet.
Final choice of idea.
I am choosing to use my underwater oil smoke idea, the imagery will be a woman blowing out oil out of her mouth underwater and the oil will be flowing out as if she blew it out and when that oil hits the surface of the water it turns into smoke and disappears off into the atmosphere, the way in which this represents underwater life is how the oil crisis with BP polluting the sea and killing the underwater life i am using that as a comparison to how 2nd hand smoke can also harm us as humans on land, that way i have an anti smoking campaign as well as an underwater themed image, im using the underwater life crisis of the BP incident as a reprehensive of people smoking polluting the air on the surface. Colours i will use will be dark oily natural colours like greys black and creams and dark green to really get that polluted look to the piece I want the colours to have an impact on the people who are looking at it. My influence for this work is the news; the bp crisis got a huge reaction out of a lot of people and by hopefully comparing the oil crisis and second hand smoke it might make people think about it a little bit more. The format i am choosing to use is a portrait poster, so i can fit in all the imagery i need going upwards with maybe some txt on it, the output will be at 150dpi which will give a clear enough image when it comes to printing it.
